This season for Sutton United fans it is full of firsts. For me it was my first time listening to the game on the iFollow EFL app. First time also I paid for radio commentary. Back in the National League their was MixR were commentary was free but now it's behind an iFollow wall. To jump over and listen, its two pounds fifty. Once there I was pleased to hear a familiar voice from the MixR days with Ahmed on commentary duties. He done well, I look forward to his commentary for a Sutton United home game. Hopefully it's an exciting game with no need for commentary filler that notes the arrival of a train into the nearby West Sutton International Train station conveniently situated next to our Gander Green Lane ground.

I had a few buffering issues listening on my laptop but these were sorted by refreshing the screen. These are acceptable on the free MixR commentary less so on paid for IFollow. That said I was happy enough with iFollow commentary and will go back for more. I needed to go out so switched my IFollow radio commentary to my mobile phone. Earphones in, I hit the streets to listen to the final fifteen minutes of the game. I was stopped in my tracks, my hands went up in the air then a cry of yes! Equaliser from Sutton Utd, a silky Sutton move finished off with a deft flick of the ball from Donovan Wilson into the net.

I kept walking, listening, stopping to catch my breath as Sutton surged forward hunting down a winner. Then it came, it's in, it has to be goal, Donovan Wilson is in but he skies it over the bar. Game over, one all draw and another point. More importantly Sutton Utd after going behind to Scunthorpe had a lull but shook it off to get back into the game making it one apiece. That away from home we didn’t settle, retreat into our shell for a draw, instead we surged in search of a winner. It didn’t come but it was an excellent point picked up on the road. We are building nicely to get that first EFL win. If it happens at home against Oldham next Saturday it would be the icing on the cake and mark an amazing start to our EFL story. If the first few pages are anything to go by it will have a happy ending.

Credit as ever to the Amber Army who made it up to Scunthorpe. Who it seems were well looked after as Sutton fan Frances testifies in a brilliant thank you Tweet.

Meanwhile in the nearby Borough of Merton bored AFC Wimbledon fans gathered on street corners with a bunch of Wombles.

Or were they waiting for a goal keeping messiah to arrive in the form of Dave Beasant? Who I was Ied to believe was taking part in a Merton Heritage Day celebrating Wimbledon’s famous FA cup victory over Liverpool in 1988. Which links nicely to our other local team Sutton Common Rovers who in the FA Cup preliminary rounds earned a replay against Steyning Town with a nil nil draw. So a case of two Sutton’s, two draws but a lot of optimism.
